Shipwrecked

they put something in place just to keep us in line
like the cold of a knife or the drop of a dime
if each single heart could just beat all as one
we could sing to the beat, screaming loud as a gun
i hear your song and it's hard to ignore
like a dream in the day or the key to a door
humming along in the back of your car
pounding my heart like a drum in the dark
it's best to stay silent. it's best to forget
all alone in the dark like the beat in your chest
our words only last about as long as you're there
if a tree fell in the woods, would you even care?
oh ho- ho- hold me cause god im so lost
i'm sick to my stomach from the weight of my thoughts
don't try to play along cause you don't even know
took a stroll outside, fell asleep in the snow
you're the tear on my sleeve and the break in my bones
we're short on time but we're taking it slow
you opened my door and you captured my dreams
oh captain, oh captain
now i'm lost out at sea
we need some escape, temporary reprieve
something to shake all the snow from the trees
a gust of warm air or a hot summer breeze
a world caught in silence at the edge of our seats
I've never felt so lonely, i needed someone who could hold me
and everyone is so crazy but i was lost and you saved me
from this whirlwind, this hardship
it's something fierce but there's time to change
we're shipwrecked on the eastern sea
but there's land ahead and you've still got me
let's change this world, one step at a time
and eventually we'd find love in our lives
open my eyes, i was shocked to behold
a world once so grey, now it's shining like gold
the sweet summer sun caught the glint in your eyes
the world might seem bleak but your dreams never die

one day i realized everyone was gone
everyone was gone and they all went home
why can i do if everyone is dead?
if everyone is dead then i'm on my own
on my own, i could breathe in like the ocean
all that hope, i could hold it up
let's just
go for a ride with the devil inside
leave the father and the ghost at home
well we dance to the beat, like lover's in the street
but we fight like we're all alone
we drink to the night, like an angel in flight
but we sin like we're sailing home
the sailors in the back are screaming at the front
in a voice at the top of their lungs
they're yelling..
we need another new round, another round's what we need
we need another new round, 'fore we sail out to the sea
we need another new round, another round's what we need
we need another new round, 'fore we sail out to the sea

there was a kid when i was young, we made our wars out in the sun
through the barrel of a wooden gun
he had a heart so hot it burned, guess it turned out for the worse
i hope you know you were my first, and only friend
there was a time when i would look at you and i swear i found my peace
and it's a shame you had to leave
spent the summers with my dad, he tought me how to mow the lawn
guess you don't know what you've got till it's gone
well, time moves on, memories fade
and i guess that that's okay
i just hope you hear me when i say
that you were all i had in a world gone mad
and it's a shame you had to go
my grandma turned to me one day, touched the wrinkles on her face
said " i remember when i was your age"
there's some things you need to know
i'll say it once and say it slow
but i still hear her to this day
she said
"There was a time when i was young, a flower blooming in the sun,
and that's the way it used to be.
There comes a day when it will slip away and you won't get it back
so try to make the memories last"
i've been running circles around my head all day
i've done my math and i've been racking my brain
i guess there's some things that you have to learn yourself
just know that things will be okay
so if you're roaming through the rolling hills or travelin' through the rain
just know that life will go your way

I'm leaving in the morning
I'm hoping you won't mind
I'm leaving today to a place so far away
To find a home that's mine
You're crying in the bathroom
Your tears won't touch the ground
You'll wipe them away like an eraser on a page
You'll throw the tissues out
I'm climbing out the window
I'm scared to make a sound
But if I run, would you promise to keep up?
Just to hang around
I'm scared of your intentions
I'm scared of what's to come
I took my time but I think it's time I tried
To step out in the sun
My friends all went to college
When I'm alone, I think of them
But I'm not sad. If i could take those moments back
I'd do it all again
I'm leaving in the morning
I hope you say goodbye
And shake my hand, cause I won't get another chance
To leave my home behind
